No, a desktop is not required to have access to Office 365; however, you will be able to work offline if you download a desktop version of Office to the Office 365 services. This will minimize any downtime if internet services are interrupted.

You can either select a monthly or an annual subscription commitment. If you select the monthly subscription option, you make a single payment once a month. Monthly subscription commitments are typically more each month than an annual subscription commitment. You can cancel your monthly subscription at any time without any penalty. However, if you opted up for a one-year subscription, you can pay the total subscription fee up front or break it down into monthly payments. Annual subscriptions are typically discounted. If you choose to pay month to month there is a penalty for canceling your subscription.

Your data is yours; it always has been and is never ours. We do recommend that you download your data (such as emails and saved documents) to a new location before you cancel your subscription. Once your cancel your subscription, all data associate with your Microsoft 365 account will only be available to those with administrative clearance in a limited function for 90 days.

Yes, you can upgrade to a different Office 365 plan. For example, you can upgrade from an Office 365 Business Essentials plan to an Office 365 Premium plan.

NOTE: When you upgrade your account, your domain name is transferred to your new account, whether you brought your own domain name to the Office 365 account or you set up a domain name with Office 365.

Yes, you can mix and match Office 365 plans. Please note that there are some license limitations at the plan level. The Office 365 Business, Business Essentials, and Business Premium plans each have a limit of 300 users, while the Enterprise plans are for an unlimited number of users. For example, you can purchase 300 Business Premium seats, 300 Business Essentials seats, and 500 Enterprise E3 seats on a single tenant.
